THINK-UP is a thematic network project of the European Commission's 5th Framework Programme for Research and Development.
THINK-UP aims to draw together results on transport demand forecasting and scenario building and to discuss and compare the methodologies used, the underlying hypotheses and the results obtained.
THINK-UP is organised through a network of transport experts from many different sectors: policy makers, service providers, users, and researchers. Through small workshops and larger seminars the themes of the project are discussed and taken forward. The project considers in particular, the subjects of passenger and freight transport markets, the institutional context and policy variables, and issues concerning prediction tools and trend estimation.
The results classify policy objectives and variables, validate segmentation of transport markets and review European modelling results, as regards model specification.
THINK-UP commenced in May 2000, and will last for 30 months, working in relation with the EXPEDITE research project.
